Adult Horse Camp at Pontispool.

West Devon Riding Club
Seven members of West Devon Riding Club, Roy, Helen, Jill, Cathy, Maxine, Debbie and Suzi attended a weekend Adult Horse Camp at Pontispool Equestrian Centre near Taunton. The weather just about held out and although there was rain, this was mostly in the evening or at night so it did not spoil the riding. We arrived on Friday evening just as dinner was being served and wine was already flowing freely with the 30 plus other adults who were on the camp. The food was delicious and we were made to feel very welcome over dinner by the owners. Most of us opted for an early night after having a day at work before travelling to Taunton.
Accommodation was basic in porter cabins but once the heating was sorted it was plenty warm enough. We made a 7 o'clock start with feeding and mucking out the horses before having a delicious cooked breakfast. We were divided into groups of about 6 according to our ability and requests. Everyone had four hours of instruction on the Saturday which included flatwork, show jumping and cross country. There were three lovely arenas of varying sizes and a wonderful, varied cross country course. Another lovely evening meal and wine was preceded by talk from an equine dentist. Sunday was a day of choices to either enter a fun competition or relax and ride around the cross country course. Those who entered the competition did well. Roy came 3rd in the 2'9" having never jumped coloured poles before and was awarded the Pontispool cap for the most improved rider. Maxine and Debbie both came 5th in their respective classes. The competition was then followed by instruction of your choice. Most people went for the flatwork as riders and horses were becoming tired. Presentations after a buffet lunch and departure was about 3 o'clock.
Everyone had a brilliant time enjoying the company, riding and instruction from excellent and friendly instructors. We all achieved a personal goal, came back on a high and can't wait to go next year.
